2025 recap: Gaining ground in the fight to clean up America’s food supply.

Hello FoodFight USA Warriors!

2025 has been a breakthrough year in our fight to clean up America’s tainted food supply. From landmark legislation and policy gains to consumer empowerment tools and regenerative agriculture momentum, we have big wins to celebrate, and big plans for 2026 and beyond!

If you’d like to help fuel our nonprofit, nonpartisan fight, please consider a donation. Together, we can reclaim our food system and our health, from Farm to Fork.

Policy Gains

In 2025, FoodFight USA helped drive a wave of state and federal action in service of our first mission: to stop self-regulation by food companies and clean up our tainted food supply.

California’s third landmark bill is a huge win! Working alongside Asm. Jesse Gabriel, we helped secure passage of AB 1264, the first-in-the-nation law to establish a statutory definition of ultra-processed foods and phase the most harmful UPFs out of schools.

Legislative momentum: Our current estimates of state legislative activity show that 34 U.S. states have introduced or passed bills seeking chemical ingredient bans, warning labels, improved school nutrition, state-level GRAS transparency, and farm-to-fork programs.

Of these, 14 states have enacted at least one bill and another 20 have introduced legislation. In total,  20 bipartisan bills have been passed to date, and 88 bills are currently active. We will continue to work hard to get these bills passed. Contact your state reps today and make your voice heard!

Industry pushback means pressure from the states is working: Big Food has responded by launching a front group with a misleading name. Don’t be fooled–this new organization is not really for “ingredient transparency.” Funded by some of the nation’s biggest food and beverage companies, their goal is to roll back these new state laws designed to protect consumers from toxic ingredients. This is why we Fight!

The FDA has asked for our help: We have earned the trust of leaders at the highest levels of government. HHS, FDA, and USDA requested our expertise to help establish a federal statutory definition of UPFs. We also submitted a detailed response supporting former FDA Commissioner Dr. David A. Kessler’s petition to revoke GRAS status for processed refined carbohydrates.

State AGs welcome our support: We have long believed that meaningful change will come through litigation. To that end, we have been working behind the scenes with dozens of State Attorney General offices to support action to hold Big Food accountable for deceptive trade practices and violations of consumer protection laws. We are optimistic that multi-state action is on the horizon. Meanwhile, we are thrilled to see the city attorney of San Francisco has filed a lawsuit against major food companies, stating: “These companies created a public health crisis with the engineering and marketing of ultra-processed foods.”

What’s coming in 2026: We will continue to work on our Post-Market GRAS AI Analysis and fight for national policy reform to eliminate GRAS, mandate FOP warning labels, and restrict UPF marketing to children.

Empowered Consumers

Our second mission is to empower consumers to make informed food choices. In 2025, FoodFight USA helped push consumer tools and education—so that families can learn to identify harmful UPFs and start making healthier choices today.

Food-scanning apps: We recommend shoppers use our favorite apps from Yuka, GoCoCo ZOE, WISEcode and EWG to scan food labels, learn about harmful additives and levels of sugar/salt/saturated fat, and find healthier alternatives. The Yuka app has grown to over 25 million U.S. users. Last year our celebrity FoodFight USA Warriors helped launch Yuka’s brand callout feature, which surpassed 1 million messages to brands urging the removal of harmful additives! Check out Yuka’s new video “The Problem with Food Additives in the U.S.”

Youth education: Our children are suffering the greatest health impact from UPFs. In September, UNICEF reported a Worldwide Surge in Childhood Overweight and Obesity, citing “widespread exposure to the marketing of ultra-processed foods” as a culprit. FoodFight USA is partnering with major nonprofits to provide UPF education materials for children in underserved communities. Our resources are now available in After-School All-Stars’ (ASAS) national curriculum serving 150,000 low-income youth in 80 U.S. cities.  We’ve also curated Just for Kids content on our site.

Knowledge is power: Our original content is designed to educate, empower, and sometimes enrage. Watch these videos and share with friends to spread the word:

What’s coming in 2026: We’re gearing up to partner with grocery retailers to curate healthier, non-UPF options for rural shoppers and expand our youth education program to more nationwide non-profits.

Farming Momentum

Our third mission is to work with American farmers to grow healthier foods that work for them economically and benefit consumers’ health. In 2025, we deepened our relationships with scientists, policymakers, and thought leaders who share our goal of supporting farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture practices. Some highlights from our work this year:

  • Conducting research into regenerative farming policies, practices, and soil health initiatives, and their connections to human health.
  • Working to help define, incentivize, and scale regenerative practices such as no-till, cover crops, crop rotation, reduced pesticides, livestock integration, and composting.
  • Educating state legislators and supporting policies that remove financial barriers and provide incentives for farmers making the initial transition to regenerative.
  • Producing and distributing informative content designed to drive consumer awareness and demand for nutrient-dense foods produced by regenerative or biodynamic farmers.
  • Exploring ways to introduce Demeter-certified products to U.S. consumers.

We are especially encouraged by recent indications that regenerative practices can lead to increased profits. A few examples:

  • Our friends at Soil Health Institute shared results from case studies of 15 grain farmers in the U.S. and Canada growing wheat, oats, and canola. On an average farm size of 1,600 acres, farmers increased net income using no-till and cover crops by an average of $19/acre for wheat, $47/acre for oats, and $46/acre for canola.
  • The rancher in Profit Meets Purpose: A Rancher’s Guide to Sustainable Success points to reduced input costs and increased profitability. The author notes, “The ranch is an example of how innovative agricultural practices can simultaneously improve ecological health, animal welfare and financial sustainability.”

Our nation’s heavy reliance on monocropping, pesticides, and other conventional farming practices has contributed to the rise of UPFs and chronic disease while also degrading the health of our topsoil. The fight to clean up our food supply and improve our health begins with clean farming practices that allow Mother Nature to do her magic.

What’s coming in 2026: We will deepen our work with farmers and USDA, the agency that regulates this side of the food supply chain, including the Farm Bill and SNAP and continue to work with states to support their farm-to-fork programs.
